Helen and I decided that right after Christmas we would head to the flea market. It is held every weekend at the fairgrounds and it is huge. Takes about 4+ hours just to walk by everything. December was extremely warm here- like in the 60's and 70's! But of course the Saturday that we went it was in the 40's. We have been having a great time over the past 8 months or so checking out the thrift stores in the area and getting unique and cool stuff to decorate our bedrooms and my art studio with.
Well we went by the iron man and she fell in love with the green star- made by the Mennonites. Then I saw the little iron stars for $1 each- those will be made into something for Helen's room. We are going to decorate it in greens, turquoises, blues, and maybe red? We also got two more Campbell soup mugs for $1 each to add to the collection. I think that soup tastes best in a cool mug.
I got the old wooden tool holder and the iron basket for my art studio.
On the way home we stopped at Goodwill and I saw the doll house. Cheap! I know I will rip out those hideous curtains but I can't decide if I was to paint it in a Christmas theme and make a little village or decorate it to go w/ my art studio. I'll have to think about it. Years later I will decorate it for a grandchild to play with.
Every Christmas we each make a gift to each other. This was the year of paintings for me. Bill's brother Daryl came to stay with us over the holiday. He loves cartoons so I freehanded the robot one from his favorite cartoon Futurama. It was sketched, painted with acrylics, and detailed with marker. Hunter likes Star Wars so I did a yoda w/ a yoda quote. It was also free handed and I used acrylics, charcoal, pencil, and marker. I did the cover of Bill's latest cd- he asked me to paint a heart so I did a really textured one. For Christmas I made 8 more to make a series. Helen said her dorm room was bare so I did some textured flower paintings for her.
Everyone loved their gifts. :-)
Here's Helen's knitted ornament she made for me!
Bill got me the snowman ballerina- I adore unique snowman ornaments.
Well I was right. Last night Helen and I watched Pride and Prejudice again. For breakfast I made orange rolls, sausage links, scrambled eggs w/ cheese, and hot coffee and worked most of the day organizing. Bill and the kids played Monopoly while I made chicken tortilla soup. We had a lazy day and then watched the ball drop.
Today I made cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast, buffalo pizzas for lunch, and we'll have chicken curry for dinner since I forgot to buy black eyed peas and the traditional goodies.
They are watching Monk reruns while Bill nurses his cold and I am still organizing. There is still so much unpacking to do.
2007 will be the year of organization! I already bought a cool binder to get started. More on that later.
Happy New Year!
