Lake Sunset

Sunsetoverlake

This is one of the perks of living a little into the country. I get to cross over several bridges on my way home. The coolest thing is to witness the misty mornings rise up in a swirly fog from the water.
Yesterday morning there were probably 200+ birds hovering and swooping down~ such an amazing sight!

From the NYC Botanical Gardens gift shop~ this one hangs in front of the window over my orange thrift desk

Studio- felted flowers

When I spy something inspiring and it's the right price, I snatch it up. That is what happened when I spied these yummy felted flowers at Panopolie~ one of my favorite crafty spots. I couldn't resist the hot pink and orange colors.
I put them in a 3-tiered wire basket I got a long time ago at a local farmer's market. Some of my kitchen stuff has found a home in my studio. Fun!

Toothpicks rock

Studio_toothpicks_gidget

Flat toothpick rock...I use a billion of them to smear on E6000, for clearing dried paint from the top of the lids, cleaning dust from crevices, etc. So I opened a new box the other day and put them in one of my cute paper bowls. As I was cleaning off my table, I had two cut out pictures of Gidget (love to catch her mid yawn) and I shoved them into the toothpick bowl so they wouldn't get thrown out by accident. Later I went to get a toothpick and started to laugh at how goofy it looked so I added a felted flower to match her tongue and it now sits next to whatever I am working on and makes me smile. She is such a cutie pie!

One of those weeks

Friday_night

Seriously. It was one of those weeks.
Started off with finding out my uncle died.
Then Bill and Helen were rear-ended by a teenager. They are fine but the car needs work.
Bill wiped out his back on Monday and came home from work early. He is fine now.
I didn't go to my quilting club.
Our new principal started a week ago. He was meeting w/ all of the school teams. I had the brainy idea to have our team do a welcoming breakfast for him in my classroom.
Of course Tuesday morning, I left the house with my breakfast items sitting on the kitchen counter so I had to run to the grocery store before school to get everything I needed.
It was a really nice spread. My roasted potatoes were in the oven as he walked in at 9:30 am. Someone looked up and said, "Your oven is smoking." "WHAT?" I ran over as smoke was billowing out. Then we saw a small fire at the bottom of the oven. All I was thinking was that the fire alarm would go off and it was only 14* outside and I was going to be the laughing stock of the school. I told one person to go open my back door and someone else to open my classroom door to make a draft to get the smoke out. I grabbed a juice glass and filled it w/ water, opened the door, threw it on the fire, and closed the door quickly. I told them the alarm was in the ceiling so the new principal got on a chair and started to fan the ceiling with a newspaper- others followed. When the smoke cleared out, I opened the oven and more billowed out and flew down the hall. Whew. No alarm. Just full embarrassment. Seems one of the potatoes decided to jump off of the baking sheet and landed on the oven coil and caught fire. Lovely. Everyone laughed about it. Funny thing is since I started teaching home ec. 6 years ago, not one of my students has ever burned anything. This was the first. My new principal sent me a thank-you note the next day and said he was happy that I knew how to put out fires. LOL
Next, a glass of red wine was knocked over in the kitchen and it splashed all over the wall in a 2x4 foot area and the cream paint soaked has purple streaks and will need to be repainted.
I find out the boys were going to a concert on Friday so I would have the house to myself. I needed to get a baby shower gift so after school on Friday I went to Target to get a stuffed animal and a gift card. I walked around and picked up some goodies for the house and also some sushi, hot pickled okra, grape tomatoes, and fresh bread for my evening alone and ended up not finding a stuffed animal I liked. I forgot to get the gift card. Dang. Realized that after I left.
So we got home from school and eventually the guys left. I was in a daze. I turned on the fire place, put on my fuzzy robe, got some magazines and my food out, and sat there watching a Grey's Anatomy rerun. I wanted to do something creative but nah- went to bed early. LOL
So yesterday I went to the mall right when it opened to get a stuffed frog at Pottery Barn kids and a gift certificate to the mall since they have 6+ baby/kid stores. I got to the party and must have eaten something that didn't agree with me.
Today we had to leave church early because I wasn't feeling well.
Ugg- hope this week is better!

Sock Monkeys

A housewife sock monkey- yes- that is what one of my students wanted to make for her sewing project. I laughed and gave her the go ahead. Here are a couple more of my favorites. Teaching middle school can be such a crack up!

Anticipation

Snow_arbor
At 5:50 am my alarm went off and I quickly turned on the tv to see if school was closed...YES!!!!!!!!!
So instead of going back to sleep, I have been looking out the window watching the sunrise and anticipating the snow that is about to fall. Gidget is perched in the window too. I think she can sense something is going to happen.

A couple weeks ago it snowed in the morning just a little but enough for school to close. I took this picture overlooking my future garden w/ the arbor that Bill got me. It's been 2 years since we have had snow.

Today I will stay wrapped up in my fluffy robe, turn on the fireplace, drink hot coffee, and do some crafting. And to top it off, I will not have to make up the day because I have a comp day from the principal for the extra stuff I have done at school! YESSSSSSSS!!
